Ingredients
Scale
Cupcakes
- 12 chocolate cupcakes (homemade or store-bought)
Witch Hat Toppers
- 6 Oreo cookies
- 12 Hershey’s chocolate kisses
- 1/2 batch cream cheese frosting
- Green food coloring
- Orange food coloring
- White sprinkles
- Orange sprinkles
Instructions
- Prepare Frosting: After making the cream cheese frosting, measure out 1/2 cup of it into a separate bowl.
- Color Frosting: Add green food coloring to the larger portion of frosting and orange food coloring to the smaller portion, mixing well until vibrant green and orange colors are achieved.
- Split Oreos: Carefully split each Oreo cookie in half to get two thin cookie rounds; use the halves with cream filling for the witch hat bases.
- Assemble Witch Hats: Place a small spoonful of orange frosting in the center of the cream side of each Oreo half, then gently press a Hershey’s chocolate kiss on top to form the point of the hat. Decorate with white and orange sprinkles while the frosting is still soft. Set aside to firm up.
- Frost Cupcakes: Using a piping bag or a spoon, pipe or spread the green frosting in the center of each cupcake, swirling it upwards to create a layered, pointed effect, but avoid spreading the frosting all the way to the edges of the cupcake.
- Top with Witch Hats: Place one assembled Oreo witch hat on top of each frosted cupcake.
- Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the cupcakes in a covered container until ready to serve to help set the frosting and keep everything fresh.
Notes
- Use room temperature cream cheese frosting for easier coloring and spreading.
- Be gentle when splitting Oreos to keep the cream filling intact for sticking the hats together.
- For a less sweet option, use dark chocolate kisses.
- These cupcakes are best served within 2 days when stored refrigerated.
- Allow refrigerated cupcakes to come to room temperature before serving for best flavor.
