Ingredients
Scale
Banana Chips
- 2 ripe bananas (firm, not too ripe)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Cinnamon Honey Coating
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt (optional)
Instructions
- Prep the Bananas: Peel the bananas and slice them thinly, about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. Using a mandoline slicer is recommended for even slices which helps ensure consistent cooking.
- Prevent Browning: Place the banana slices in a large bowl and drizzle with lemon juice. Toss gently to coat all slices and prevent browning.
- Make the Cinnamon Honey Coating: In a small bowl, combine the honey or maple syrup with ground cinnamon and a pinch of salt if using. Stir well to create a uniform glaze.
- Coat the Bananas: Drizzle the cinnamon honey mixture over the banana slices and gently toss to evenly coat all slices with the glaze.
- Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for about 3-5 minutes to ensure it reaches the ideal cooking temperature.
- Arrange for Air Frying: Lay the coated banana slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket. It’s best to work in batches if your air fryer basket is small to avoid overcrowding.
- Air Fry the Banana Chips: Cook the banana slices for 8-10 minutes, flipping them halfway through. Watch carefully as they can quickly go from golden and crispy to burnt.
- Cool and Crisp: Remove the chips from the air fryer and allow them to cool for a few minutes. The chips will continue to crisp as they cool down.
- Serve or Store: Enjoy your banana chips immediately for peak crispiness, or store them in an airtight container for 2-3 days to maintain freshness.
Notes
- Use firm ripe bananas rather than overly soft ones for better texture and crispiness.
- A mandoline slicer makes slicing easier and ensures even thickness.
- Keep an eye on the banana chips during the last few minutes to prevent burning.
- Store chips in a sealed container to maintain crispiness for a couple of days.
- Honey can be swapped with maple syrup for a vegan alternative.
