Description

Sticky Honey Chicken is a quick and flavorful dish featuring tender boneless chicken breasts cooked in a sweet and tangy honey soy sauce glaze. Perfect for a weeknight dinner, this recipe combines honey, soy sauce, garlic, and ginger to create a deliciously sticky coating that pairs wonderfully with rice or steamed vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 4 boneless chicken breasts

Sauce

  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Garnish

  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, olive oil, minced garlic, ground ginger, and red pepper flakes if using. Set the sauce mixture aside to allow the flavors to meld.
  2. Cook the Chicken: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place the boneless chicken breasts in the skillet and cook for 5 to 7 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and cooked completely through, ensuring the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
  3. Add the Sauce: Pour the prepared honey sauce over the cooked chicken breasts in the skillet. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer the chicken in the sauce for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will thicken the sauce and coat the chicken with a glossy, sticky glaze.
  4. Garnish & Serve: Remove the skillet from heat. Sprinkle the chicken with sesame seeds for a nutty crunch and serve immediately. This dish pairs beautifully with steamed rice or your favorite sautéed vegetables.

Notes

  • For an extra kick, increase the red pepper flakes or add fresh chili slices.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure chicken is fully cooked and safe to eat.
  • Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to 3 days and can be reheated gently in a skillet.
  • For a gluten-free version, use tamari or gluten-free soy sauce.
  • To reduce calories, use a light olive oil and moderate the amount of honey.
