Ingredients
Dough:
1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 large egg
¼ cup unsalted butter, melted (plus more for brushing)
1 teaspoon salt
3 to 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy. Add the egg, melted butter, and salt. Stir in the flour, 1 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
- Knead and Rise: Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 6–8 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1 ½ hours, or until doubled in size.
- Shape and Bake: Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. Shape into smooth balls and place in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes until puffy. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown. Brush with additional melted butter immediately after baking. Serve warm.
Notes
- For extra flavor, mix garlic or herbs into the butter for brushing.
- Rolls can be made ahead and reheated gently before serving.
