Main Cake:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil

  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

For the Topping:

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 3/4 cups hot water

Instructions

  1. Grease the slow cooker: Coat the inside of a 6-quart slow cooker with nonstick spray.
  2. Prepare the cake batter: In a large bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
  3. Fill the slow cooker: Pour the batter into the greased slow cooker and spread evenly.
  4. Add the topping: In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cocoa powder. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter.
  5. Add hot water: Slowly pour hot water over the top without stirring.
