Ingredients
Scale
Sausage Mixture
- 1 pound breakfast sausage (spicy or mild, depending on preference)
- 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
Dough
- 1 can (8 oz) crescent roll dough
Garnish
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking during baking.
- Cook Sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage while breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until fully browned and no longer pink, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess grease and set sausage aside to cool slightly.
- Prepare Cheese Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and crushed red pepper flakes if using. Stir until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Combine Sausage and Cheese: Once the sausage has cooled a bit, add it to the cream cheese mixture and stir thoroughly to create an even filling.
- Prepare Dough: Roll out the crescent roll dough on a flat surface, keeping the dough in one large sheet by pinching the seams together to form a solid sheet instead of separate triangles.
- Spread Filling: Evenly spread the sausage and cream cheese mixture over the dough, leaving about a 1/4-inch border around the edges for sealing.
- Roll and Cut: Starting from one edge, carefully roll the dough tightly into a log shape, pinching the seam to seal it well. Then cut the log into 1-inch wide pinwheels using a sharp knife.
- Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the pinwheels spaced with a little room between each one on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until the pinwheels are golden brown and the filling is bubbly and hot.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- Using mild or spicy sausage can adjust the heat level to your preference.
- Ensure the cream cheese is softened to mix easily with the other ingredients.
- Pinching the crescent roll seams together prevents filling from leaking during baking.
- You can add extra herbs like chives or oregano to the filling for added flavor.
- Serve these pinwheels as a party appetizer, snack, or even a fun breakfast treat.
