Description

Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls are a delicious fusion appetizer combining the classic flavors of a Philly cheesesteak with the crispy, handheld convenience of an egg roll. Thinly sliced ribeye steak, sautéed peppers and onions, and melted provolone cheese are wrapped in crispy egg roll wrappers and fried to golden perfection. Perfect for game day or as a tasty snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ribeye steak or flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 1 cup shredded provolone cheese (or mozzarella)
  • 12 egg roll wrappers
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

For Frying

  • Vegetable oil for frying (about 2 inches deep)

Instructions

  1. Sauté the Vegetables: Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the diced onion and green bell pepper. Cook for 4–5 minutes until the vegetables are softened and fragrant.
  2. Cook the Steak: Add the thinly sliced ribeye or flank steak to the skillet with the vegetables. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Cook for 3–4 minutes until the steak is browned and cooked through. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
  3. Combine with Cheese: Stir the shredded provolone cheese into the warm steak and vegetable mixture until the cheese is melted and well combined.
  4. Assemble the Egg Rolls: Lay one egg roll wrapper on a clean surface with a corner pointing towards you. Spoon about 2–3 tablespoons of the steak and cheese filling near the bottom corner. Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in the sides and roll tightly. Seal the top corner with a little water to prevent it from opening during frying.
  5. Heat Oil for Frying: In a deep pan or pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C), ensuring there is about 2 inches of oil for deep frying.
  6. Fry the Egg Rolls: Fry the assembled egg rolls in batches without overcrowding the pan. Cook for 3–4 minutes, turning occasionally, until the egg rolls are golden brown and crispy.
  7. Drain and Serve: Remove the egg rolls with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with cheese sauce, ketchup, or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef for the thinly sliced steak if preferred for easier prep.
  • Adding chopped mushrooms to the filling enhances flavor and texture.
  • For a healthier alternative, brush the assembled egg rolls with oil and bake them at 400°F (200°C) for 15–18 minutes, flipping halfway through until crispy and golden.
