Ingredients
Scale
Meat Mixture
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
Lasagna & Cheese
- 12 oz lasagna noodles, cooked and drained
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
- 3 cups ricotta cheese
Parmesan Garlic Sauce
- 2 cups milk
- 4 tbsp butter
- 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
Optional
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to get it ready for baking the lasagna later.
- Cook Beef Mixture: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until the beef is browned and the onion is soft. Drain any excess fat, then add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute to release its aroma.
- Make the Roux: In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the all-purpose flour and cook for 1 to 2 minutes to form a smooth roux, which will thicken your sauce.
- Prepare the Sauce: Gradually whisk in the milk while stirring constantly to avoid lumps, and cook until the sauce thickens and smoothens.
- Season the Sauce: Remove the sauce from heat, then stir in the Italian seasoning, half of the grated Parmesan cheese, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Prepare Ricotta: In a bowl, mix the ricotta cheese with a pinch of salt and pepper to enhance its flavor.
- Assemble Lasagna: Spread a thin layer of the Parmesan garlic sauce on the bottom of your baking dish. Then layer cooked lasagna noodles, half of the beef mixture, dollops of ricotta cheese, a layer of shredded mozzarella, and some of the sauce. Repeat these layers, finishing with sauce, and sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
- Bake Covered: Cover the lasagna with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes to allow it to cook through and meld flavors.
- Bake Uncovered: Remove the foil and continue baking for another 15 minutes until the lasagna is bubbly and the cheese on top turns a beautiful golden brown.
- Rest and Serve: Once baked, let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes to set up for easier slicing. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired before serving.
Notes
- Be sure to cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions before assembling.
- Draining the excess fat from the cooked beef helps keep the dish from becoming greasy.
- If you prefer a thicker sauce, cook it a little longer on the stove before removing from heat.
- The resting time after baking allows the lasagna layers to firm up for cleaner slices.
- Fresh parsley is optional but adds a nice fresh color and flavor when serving.
