Description

These Honey Garlic Jerk Chicken Wings are a flavorful twist on a classic favorite, combining the smoky spices of jerk seasoning with a sweet and tangy honey garlic glaze. Air fried to crispy perfection and gluten-free, they make a perfect appetizer or snack for gatherings or weeknight treats.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Wings

  • 2 1/2 lb party chicken wing dings (disjointed with tips removed)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 8 tsp jerk seasoning (up to 9 tsp for extra heat)
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • Cooking spray

Sauce

  • 2 tbsp salted butter
  • 5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 1/2 tsp tamari (gluten-free soy sauce)
  • 1/4 tsp gluten-free hot sauce
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger (or fresh grated ginger, if desired)
  • 1/8 tsp smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. Prepare Wings: In a large bowl, pat dry the chicken wings with a paper towel. Season with salt, pepper, jerk seasoning, and baking powder, tossing until well combined to ensure an even coating for maximum flavor and crispiness.
  2. Preheat Air Fryer and Arrange Wings: Set the air fryer temperature to 400°F (200°C). Spray the air fryer rack with cooking oil to prevent sticking and arrange the chicken wings evenly, making sure they are spaced out and not overcrowded to allow hot air to circulate for even cooking.
  3. Air Fry Wings: Cook the wings for 15-17 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time. The wings should develop a crispy exterior and be almost cooked through at this stage.
  4. Make Honey Garlic Jerk Sauce: While the wings are cooking, melt the butter in a pot over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes. Stir in the honey, tamari, gluten-free hot sauce, ginger, and smoked paprika, then reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer gently for 3-4 minutes to meld the flavors.
  5. Coat Wings with Sauce: Once the wings are cooked, toss or brush them evenly with the honey garlic jerk sauce, ensuring each wing is well coated for maximum flavor.
  6. Finish Cooking in Air Fryer: Return the coated wings to the air fryer and cook for an additional 8 minutes. This step caramelizes the sauce on the wings and crisps them up again for a sticky, delicious finish.
  7. Serve: Remove the wings from the air fryer and serve immediately while hot and flavorful. Enjoy your crispy, sticky, and spicy honey garlic jerk chicken wings!

Notes

  • You can adjust the jerk seasoning amount for desired heat level, starting with 8 tsp and going up to 9 tsp for spicier wings.
  • Make sure to pat the wings dry before seasoning to achieve maximum crispiness with the baking powder.
  • If you don’t have an air fryer, these wings can be baked in the oven at 425°F for about 40 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • Use tamari to keep the recipe gluten-free; regular soy sauce will add gluten.
  • For extra smoky flavor, try adding a pinch more smoked paprika or a dash of liquid smoke to the sauce.
