Description

This Hibachi Chicken recipe features tender, flavorful boneless chicken breasts marinated in a zesty blend of soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, and honey, then grilled to perfection. A simple yet delicious dish that brings the authentic taste of hibachi-style cooking to your home grill or grill pan, finished with a garnish of toasted sesame seeds and green onions.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Marinade

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Garnish

  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds (optional)
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the Marinade: In a medium bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, olive oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, honey, and lemon juice. Whisk until the marinade is fully blended and smooth.
  2. Marinate the Chicken: Season the chicken breasts generously with salt and pepper. Place them in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over the top, ensuring they are fully coated. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or preferably overnight to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat.
  3. Preheat the Grill: Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat, making sure it is well-oiled or non-stick to prevent sticking.
  4. Prepare Chicken for Grilling: Remove the chicken from the marinade, discarding any leftover marinade to avoid contamination.
  5. Grill the Chicken: Place the chicken breasts on the hot grill. Cook for 6-8 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C) and the chicken is thoroughly cooked through with nice grill marks.
  6. Rest the Chicken: Take the chicken off the grill and let it rest on a plate for about 5 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute, keeping the meat juicy and tender.
  7. Slice and Garnish: Slice the rested chicken breasts into strips and garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions before serving to add texture and fresh flavor.

Notes

  • Marinating overnight enhances the flavor and tenderness of the chicken.
  • If you don’t have a grill, a grill pan or cast-iron skillet works well indoors.
  • Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness to avoid overcooking.
  • Toasting the sesame seeds lightly in a dry pan enhances their flavor before garnishing.
  • Serve with steamed rice and vegetables for a complete meal.
