Scale
Wet Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Dry Ingredients
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar (67g)
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar (100g)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled (186g)
Add-ins
- 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet, milk, or dark)
- 1/2–3/4 cup Halloween sprinkles (orange and black jimmies)
- Candy eyes (optional)
Instructions
- Make the Cookie Dough: In a large bowl, mix the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth. Add in the vanilla extract and egg, mixing thoroughly until fully incorporated and the mixture is homogeneous.
- Add Dry Ingredients: Add the all-purpose flour, salt, and baking soda to the wet mixture. Stir gently and just until combined to avoid overmixing, which could toughen the cookies.
- Fold in Add-ins: Carefully fold in the chocolate chips and Halloween-themed sprinkles, ensuring an even distribution throughout the dough without breaking up the chips.
- Chill the Dough: Using a tablespoon measure, scoop dough into 2-tablespoon balls and place them evenly spaced on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover the tray with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1.5 to 2 hours to firm up the dough and enhance flavor. The dough can also be chilled up to 24 hours ahead of baking.
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking once the dough is chilled.
- Prepare for Baking: Arrange the chilled dough balls on a fresh parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart to allow for spreading.
- Bake the Cookies: Bake in the preheated oven for 11-13 minutes, until the edges turn a golden brown while the centers remain soft and slightly underbaked for optimal texture.
- Decorate and Cool: Optionally press candy eyes onto warm cookies to create a playful Halloween appearance. Allow cookies to cool completely on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack or serving to set the structure fully.
Notes
- For chewier cookies, bake toward the lower end of the time range and avoid overbaking.

- You can use any type of semi-sweet, milk, or dark chocolate chips depending on preference.
- Candy eyes are optional but add a fun festive look perfect for Halloween parties.
- Store baked cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
