Description

Savor the comforting flavors of Gravy Lover’s Meatballs, tender beef and pork meatballs simmered in a rich, creamy brown gravy made from scratch. Perfect for a hearty family dinner, these skillet-cooked meatballs pair wonderfully with mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Meatballs

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup grated onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (for browning)

Gravy

  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Mix Meatball Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, grated onion, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently just until combined to keep the meatballs tender.
  2. Shape Meatballs: Form the mixture into 1 1/2-inch meatballs for even cooking and a perfect bite size.
  3. Brown Meatballs: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add meatballs in batches, browning them evenly on all sides for about 6–8 minutes total. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  4. Make Gravy Base: In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in all-purpose flour and cook for 1–2 minutes until golden brown to create the roux.
  5. Add Liquid and Seasonings: Gradually whisk in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, and garlic powder. Stir frequently and simmer the gravy until it thickens, approximately 5 minutes.
  6. Simmer Meatballs in Gravy: Return the browned meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer gently for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until meatballs are cooked through and flavors meld.
  7. Adjust Seasonings and Serve: Taste the gravy and season with salt and pepper as needed before serving hot over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice.

Notes

  • Serve these meatballs over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice for a complete meal.
  • For richer flavor, try using all beef or all pork according to your preference.
  • Meatballs can be made ahead of time and frozen before cooking in the gravy, making meal prep easy.
