For the Sauce:

  • 3 green onions, sliced
  • 2 teaspoons fresh ginger, minced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 1/4 cup water (slurry)

For Serving:

  • steamed rice
  • sesame seeds and extra green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Coat chicken with beaten eggs, then toss with cornstarch until evenly coated.
  2. Fry the Chicken: Heat oil in a skillet, fry chicken until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  3. Make the Sauce: Sauté green onions, ginger, garlic, and red pepper flakes. Add soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, and sugar. Thicken with cornstarch slurry.
  4. Combine: Toss fried chicken in the sauce until coated.
  5. Serve: Serve hot over steamed rice, garnished with sesame seeds and green onions.

  • For a healthier version, bake or air-fry the chicken instead of deep frying.
  • Adjust red pepper flakes to control spiciness.
