Ingredients
Scale
Sausage Mixture
- 1 lb (16 oz) sausage (breakfast sausage or Italian sausage, your choice)
Dairy & Cheese
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Seasonings
- 1 tablespoon taco seasoning or 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
Garnish & Serving
- 2 tablespoons chopped green onions (optional)
- Tortilla chips, crackers, or vegetable sticks for serving
Instructions
- Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage, breaking it apart as it cooks. Stir occasionally and cook until the sausage is fully browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess grease to keep the dip from being too oily.
- Make the Dip Base: Reduce the heat to low and add the softened cream cheese directly into the skillet with the cooked sausage. Stir continuously until the cream cheese is fully melted and well combined with the sausage, creating a smooth base.
- Add the Other Ingredients: Mix in the sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, and optional taco seasoning or paprika, along with garlic powder, black pepper, and onion powder. Stir constantly until all the cheese is melted and the dip reaches a creamy, well-blended consistency.
- Serve: Once the dip is smooth and hot, remove the skillet from the heat. Transfer the sausage dip into a serving bowl, garnish with chopped green onions if desired, and serve immediately with your choice of tortilla chips, crackers, or vegetable sticks for dipping.
Notes
- You can customize the flavor by using breakfast or Italian sausage depending on your preference.
- If you prefer a spicier dip, add more taco seasoning or a pinch of cayenne pepper.
- To make cleanup easier, use a non-stick skillet.
- This dip is best served warm but can be gently reheated on the stovetop or in the microwave.
- Leftover dip can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
