Description

This Easy & Quick Crab Melts recipe delivers a delicious and cheesy seafood treat perfect for a quick lunch or light dinner. Featuring lump crab meat mixed with flavorful seasonings and topped with melted cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, these crab melts are simple to prepare and irresistibly tasty.

Ingredients

Scale

Crab Mixture

  • 1 cup lump crab meat
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped celery
  • 2 tablespoons sliced green onion
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Toppings and Bread

  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 English muffins or crusty bread slices, halved
  • Butter for toasting

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Crab Mixture: In a bowl, gently combine the lump crab meat, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, finely chopped celery, sliced green onions, garlic powder, Old Bay seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir carefully to maintain the crab’s texture without breaking it up too much.
  2. Toast the Bread: Lightly toast the English muffin halves or bread slices until golden. Optionally, spread a thin layer of butter on them for extra richness and flavor.
  3. Assemble the Crab Melts: Spoon the prepared crab mixture evenly over each toasted bread half. Then, sprinkle a mixture of shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses generously on top of the crab mixture.
  4. Broil the Melts: Place the assembled crab melts under a preheated broiler set to high. Broil just until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly browned on top, about 3-5 minutes. Watch carefully to prevent burning.
  5. Serve: Remove from the broiler and serve immediately while hot and cheesy for the best taste experience.

Notes

  • For best flavor, use fresh lump crab meat; canned crab can be a convenient substitute.
  • Add a pinch of paprika or a slice of tomato underneath the cheese for added color and freshness.
  • Keep an eye on the broiler as cheese can quickly burn if left unattended.
