Ingredients

Scale

Cake:

  • 1 cup chopped pitted dates
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Custard:

  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9-inch square baking dish.
