Description

This Crock Pot Chicken and Gravy recipe is a comforting, slow-cooked dish featuring tender boneless chicken breasts simmered in a creamy homemade gravy made from condensed soup and chicken gravy mix. It’s an easy, hands-off meal perfect for busy days, delivering rich flavor and juicy chicken, ideal served over mashed potatoes or rice.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Vegetables

  • 1 cup diced yellow onions
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts

Gravy

  • 10.5 oz can condensed cream of chicken soup
  • 2 packets chicken gravy mix
  • ⅓ cup water
  • ½ teaspoon ground sage
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon parsley flakes

Instructions

  1. Prep Crock Pot: Spray the inside of the Crock Pot with cooking spray to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  2. Layer Ingredients: Place the diced onions evenly at the bottom of the Crock Pot. Arrange the boneless, skinless chicken breasts in a single layer on top of the onions.
  3. Make Gravy: In a bowl, whisk together the condensed cream of chicken soup, chicken gravy mix packets, water, ground sage, black pepper, and parsley flakes until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  4. Pour and Cook: Pour the prepared gravy mixture evenly over the chicken breasts in the Crock Pot. Cover the slow cooker with its lid and cook on LOW heat for 5 hours, allowing the chicken to become tender and absorb the flavors of the gravy.
  5. Shred and Serve: After 5 hours, remove the lid carefully and stir the chicken and gravy. Use a fork or spoon to break the chicken breasts apart while stirring to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces. Serve warm over mashed potatoes or rice for a hearty meal.

Notes

  • You can substitute chicken thighs for chicken breasts if preferred; they tend to stay moister.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste before serving—add salt or more pepper if needed.
  • Slow cooking on low heat ensures tender chicken; avoid cooking on high to prevent dryness.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
  • For a thicker gravy, mix a tablespoon of cornstarch with cold water and stir into the gravy before serving, then simmer for a few minutes.
