Ingredients
Scale
Chicken and Vegetables
- 1 cup diced yellow onions
- 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts
Gravy
- 10.5 oz can condensed cream of chicken soup
- 2 packets chicken gravy mix
- ⅓ cup water
- ½ teaspoon ground sage
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon parsley flakes
Instructions
- Prep Crock Pot: Spray the inside of the Crock Pot with cooking spray to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Layer Ingredients: Place the diced onions evenly at the bottom of the Crock Pot. Arrange the boneless, skinless chicken breasts in a single layer on top of the onions.
- Make Gravy: In a bowl, whisk together the condensed cream of chicken soup, chicken gravy mix packets, water, ground sage, black pepper, and parsley flakes until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Pour and Cook: Pour the prepared gravy mixture evenly over the chicken breasts in the Crock Pot. Cover the slow cooker with its lid and cook on LOW heat for 5 hours, allowing the chicken to become tender and absorb the flavors of the gravy.
- Shred and Serve: After 5 hours, remove the lid carefully and stir the chicken and gravy. Use a fork or spoon to break the chicken breasts apart while stirring to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces. Serve warm over mashed potatoes or rice for a hearty meal.
Notes
- You can substitute chicken thighs for chicken breasts if preferred; they tend to stay moister.
- Adjust seasoning to taste before serving—add salt or more pepper if needed.
- Slow cooking on low heat ensures tender chicken; avoid cooking on high to prevent dryness.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
- For a thicker gravy, mix a tablespoon of cornstarch with cold water and stir into the gravy before serving, then simmer for a few minutes.
