Perfectly cooked in a slow cooker for ease, this dish is a convenient and hearty meal ideal for family gatherings or holiday feasts.

Ingredients

Scale

Dressing Ingredients

  • 3 (9-inch) skillets of cornbread, crumbled
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 stalks celery, chopped
  • 1 (10.5-oz) can unsalted cream of chicken soup
  • 1 (10.5-oz) can unsalted cream of mushroom soup
  • 5 to cups chicken broth
  • 3 pieces wheat bread, torn into small pieces
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 1 to 2 tsp dried ground sage

Turkey Breast

  • 1 (3-lb) boneless frozen turkey breast, thawed
  • Salt, for seasoning
  • Pepper, for seasoning
  • Garlic powder, for seasoning

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dressing: Chop the onion and celery finely using a food processor and transfer them into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Combine Dressing Ingredients: Crumble the cornbread and tear the wheat bread into small pieces. Add these to the bowl with the chopped onion and celery. Stir in the unsalted cream of chicken soup, cream of mushroom soup, chicken broth (5 to 5½ cups), salt, pepper, and dried ground sage. Mix everything thoroughly until well combined.
  3. Prepare Slow Cooker: Lightly spray the inside of the slow cooker with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Then transfer the dressing mixture into the slow cooker and spread it evenly.
  4. Season the Turkey: Remove the thawed turkey breast from its packaging. Season generously all over with salt, pepper, and garlic powder to enhance the flavor.
  5. Assemble in Slow Cooker: Place the seasoned turkey breast directly on top of the dressing inside the slow cooker. Press it down slightly to ensure good contact with the dressing beneath.
  6. Cook the Turkey and Dressing: Cover the slow cooker and cook on HIGH heat for 3½ to 4 hours. The turkey is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 165ºF (74ºC). Use a meat thermometer to check doneness.
  7. Serve: Once cooked, carefully remove the turkey breast and slice it. Serve alongside the warm, flavorful dressing for a hearty meal.

Notes

  • Ensure the turkey breast is fully thawed before cooking for even cooking throughout.
  • Chicken broth quantity may be adjusted slightly to achieve desired dressing moisture; the dressing should be moist but not soggy.
  • Using unsalted soups and seasoning to taste helps control overall saltiness.
  • This recipe can be adapted with your favorite herbs or added vegetables for extra flavor.
  • Check the internal temperature of the turkey to avoid undercooking or overcooking.
