Description

These Tuna Melt Patties are a quick and delicious way to enjoy a classic tuna melt flavor in convenient patty form. Packed with tuna, cheddar cheese, and flavorful seasonings, then pan-fried to a crispy golden brown, they make for a perfect appetizer, snack, or light meal. Ready in just 20 minutes and serving 8, these patties are easy to prepare and versatile to serve.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cans (5 oz each) tuna, drained and flaked
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For Cooking

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for frying)

Optional Garnishes

  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the flaked tuna, shredded cheddar cheese, breadcrumbs, eggs, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until all ingredients are thoroughly incorporated to form a cohesive mixture.
  2. Form the Patties: Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions and shape each into a small patty approximately 1/2 inch thick. If the mixture feels too loose or crumbly, add a bit more breadcrumbs to help the patties hold their shape better.
  3. Cook the Patties: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the patties to the skillet, cooking in batches if your pan isn’t large enough to accommodate all at once. Fry each patty for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they develop a golden brown, crispy exterior and are cooked through.
  4. Serve: After cooking, transfer the patties to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb any excess oil. Serve the patties warm, either on their own with your favorite dipping sauce or placed inside buns as a sandwich. Garnish with chopped green onions or fresh parsley if desired for added flavor and presentation.

Notes

  • You can adjust the seasoning to taste by adding more salt, pepper, or other herbs of your choice.
  • If you want a gluten-free version, substitute the breadcrumbs with gluten-free breadcrumbs or crushed gluten-free crackers.
  • For a lighter option, use low-fat mayonnaise and reduced-fat cheese.
  • The patties freeze well—just form them and freeze before frying. Cook from frozen, adding a couple of extra minutes to the frying time.
  • Serve these patties with a side salad or steamed vegetables for a balanced meal.
