  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup cold sparkling water or club soda

Coating:

  • 1 1/2 cups panko breadcrumbs

  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare Onions: Separate the onion slices into rings. Lightly dredge the rings in 1/4 cup of flour.
  2. Make Batter: In a bowl, combine remaining flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, paprika, and black pepper. Add egg and cold water; whisk until smooth.
  3. Coat Rings: Dip onion rings in batter, then coat in panko breadcrumbs.
  4. Fry: Heat oil to 350°F. Fry rings in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Serve: Drain on paper towels and serve hot with dipping sauce.
