- 12 oz egg noodles
- 1 cup frozen peas, defrosted
- 2 (10 1/2 oz) cans condensed mushroom soup
- 2 (5-6 oz) cans tuna, drained
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 cups cheddar cheese, divided
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Topping Ingredients
- 1 cup panko bread crumbs
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
Instructions
- Prepare the Oven and Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking, then set aside.
- Make the Crumb Topping: In a small bowl, combine panko bread crumbs, melted butter, and 1 cup of cheddar cheese until the mixture is evenly blended. Set aside for later use.
- Cook the Egg Noodles: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add egg noodles and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain the noodles and let them cool slightly.
- Mix the Casserole Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked noodles, defrosted peas, condensed mushroom soup, drained tuna, milk, and 1 cup cheddar cheese. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir well until all ingredients are thoroughly mixed.
- Assemble the Casserole: Spread the prepared noodle and tuna mixture evenly into the greased baking dish. Evenly sprinkle the crumb topping over the casserole to cover the surface.
- Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven. Bake for 18-20 minutes until the casserole is bubbly and the topping turns golden brown and crispy.
- Serve: Remove the casserole from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your creamy, crunchy tuna casserole!
Notes
- You can substitute cream of mushroom soup with cream of celery or cream of chicken for a different flavor.
- Adding sautéed onions or mushrooms to the noodle mixture can enhance the dish’s depth.
- Panko breadcrumbs can be replaced with crushed Ritz crackers or regular breadcrumbs if preferred.
- For extra creaminess, you can mix in a dollop of sour cream or cream cheese before baking.
- Make sure not to overcook the noodles during boiling as they will continue cooking in the oven.
