Ingredients
Scale
Chicken and Cheese
- 3 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 6 slices Swiss cheese
Sauce
- 1 (10.75 oz) can condensed cream of chicken soup
- 1 cup milk
- ½ onion, diced
Topping
- 1 ½ cups stuffing mix (such as Stove Top)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
- Prepare the Chicken: Cut the chicken breasts in half horizontally to create thinner cutlets. Arrange them in a single layer in the prepared baking dish. Place Swiss cheese slices evenly over the chicken.
- Make the Sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the condensed cream of chicken soup and milk until smooth. Stir in the diced onion to combine the flavors.
- Assemble the Casserole: Pour the creamy sauce mixture evenly over the chicken and cheese. Sprinkle the stuffing mix evenly over the top to create a crispy crust once baked.
- Bake the Casserole: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the stuffing topping is golden brown and the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
Notes
- Make sure the chicken is cooked through to ensure food safety, using a meat thermometer if possible.
- You can substitute the cream of chicken soup with a homemade white sauce for a fresher taste.
- For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free stuffing mix.
- Let the casserole rest for a few minutes before serving to set and cool slightly.
