Description

Delicious and easy-to-make Cinnamon Sugar Twists featuring crispy, flaky puff pastry coated in a fragrant cinnamon sugar mixture. Perfect as a sweet snack or dessert, these twists caramelize beautifully in the oven for a golden, crunchy treat.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cinnamon Sugar Mixture

  • 345 g Sugar (1 ½ cups)
  • 12 g Cinnamon (4 teaspoons)
  • Additional granulated sugar for rolling

For the Dough

  • 300 g Puff Pastry Scraps (use Classic Puff Pastry)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the cinnamon sugar twists.
  2. Prepare Cinnamon Sugar: Whisk together 345 g of sugar and 12 g of cinnamon in a bowl to create a fragrant cinnamon sugar blend. Pour some of the mixture onto your counter and sprinkle extra granulated sugar over it for rolling.
  3. Coat Puff Pastry: Roll the cold puff pastry scraps in the cinnamon sugar on the counter, adding more sugar on top as you work it into the dough to ensure even coating.
  4. Roll Dough: Roll the coated puff pastry out to about 1/8 inch thickness. Work quickly to keep the dough cold to ensure maximum flakiness during baking.
  5. Cut Strips: Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut the rolled dough into ½ inch wide strips.
  6. Twist Dough: Take one strip at a time and twist it tightly into a spiral shape. Lay each twist on a parchment-lined baking sheet and press the ends down slightly to prevent unrolling.
  7. Repeat: Continue twisting and placing the remaining dough strips onto the baking sheet.
  8. Chill: Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes or until the dough is completely cold. This helps the twists keep their shape and bake evenly.
  9. Bake: Bake the chilled twists in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until they turn a dark golden brown and the sugar has caramelized, creating a delicious crunch.
  10. Cool and Store: Allow the twists to cool completely before storing them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. To refresh, warm them briefly in the oven to regain that freshly baked taste.

Notes

  • Work quickly with the puff pastry to keep it cold, which helps it bake flaky and rise well.
  • Chilling the twisted dough before baking ensures the shapes hold and improves texture.
  • You can use store-bought puff pastry if you don’t have scraps from scratch.
  • Store in an airtight container to maintain crispness.
  • Reheat briefly in the oven to refresh the twists after a few days.
