Dough Ingredients
- 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Filling Ingredients
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
Glaze Ingredients
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, granulated sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy to ensure the yeast is active.
- Make Dough: Add melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually stir in all-purpose flour until a dough forms.
- Knead Dough: Knead the dough on a floured surface for 6–8 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Prepare Filling: In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and ground cinnamon together for the filling.
- Shape Rolls: Punch down the risen dough and roll it into a 14×9-inch rectangle. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough, then sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture and mini chocolate chips on top.
- Roll and Cut: Roll the dough tightly from the long side into a log, then slice into 12 equal rolls.
- Second Rise: Arrange the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let them rise again for 30–45 minutes until puffy.
- Bake Rolls: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 20–25 minutes until they are golden brown and cooked through.
- Prepare Glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Glaze and Serve: Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls before serving for a sweet finishing touch.
Notes
- For extra decadence, top with a cream cheese frosting instead of the vanilla glaze.
- You can use either dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips depending on your taste preference.
- These rolls can be prepared the night before and baked fresh the following morning for convenience.
