Description

Delight in the sweet, gooey goodness of Chocolate Cinnamon Rolls. These homemade pastries combine classic cinnamon and sugar filling with mini chocolate chips, offering a perfect breakfast or dessert treat fresh from your oven. Soft, fluffy dough topped with a simple vanilla glaze makes these rolls irresistible and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Filling Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)

Glaze Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1–2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, granulated sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy to ensure the yeast is active.
  2. Make Dough: Add melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually stir in all-purpose flour until a dough forms.
  3. Knead Dough: Knead the dough on a floured surface for 6–8 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  4. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Prepare Filling: In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and ground cinnamon together for the filling.
  6. Shape Rolls: Punch down the risen dough and roll it into a 14×9-inch rectangle. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough, then sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture and mini chocolate chips on top.
  7. Roll and Cut: Roll the dough tightly from the long side into a log, then slice into 12 equal rolls.
  8. Second Rise: Arrange the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover and let them rise again for 30–45 minutes until puffy.
  9. Bake Rolls: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 20–25 minutes until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Prepare Glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  11. Glaze and Serve: Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls before serving for a sweet finishing touch.

Notes

  • For extra decadence, top with a cream cheese frosting instead of the vanilla glaze.
  • You can use either dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips depending on your taste preference.
  • These rolls can be prepared the night before and baked fresh the following morning for convenience.
