Description

This Chicken Stuffing Bake is a comforting and hearty casserole that combines tender cooked chicken, creamy soup mixture, and savory stuffing for an easy and satisfying meal. Perfect for using up leftover chicken or turkey, it’s an ideal weeknight dinner that is both flavorful and simple to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 3 cups cooked chicken (shredded or diced)
  • 1 box (6 oz) stuffing mix (such as Stove Top)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth (or water)
  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Mix Creamy Chicken Base: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cream of chicken soup, sour cream, milk, chicken broth, garlic powder, and black pepper until the mixture is smooth and well combined. Then, stir in the cooked chicken and frozen mixed vegetables if you are using them.
  3. Prepare Stuffing: In a separate bowl, prepare the stuffing mix according to the package directions, usually by combining the mix with hot water until moistened and ready.
  4. Assemble Bake: Spread the creamy chicken mixture evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Spoon the prepared stuffing over the top, spreading it out evenly to cover the mixture. Drizzle the melted butter over the stuffing layer for a richer, golden finish if desired.
  5. Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake uncovered for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the dish is hot and bubbly throughout and the stuffing topping is nicely browned.
  6. Rest and Serve: Remove from the oven and allow the bake to rest for about 5 minutes before serving to let the flavors meld and to make serving easier.

Notes

  • Great way to use up leftover chicken or turkey, reducing food waste.
  • Add shredded cheese on top of the chicken mixture before layering the stuffing for extra richness and flavor.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • To add more vegetables, feel free to increase the amount or variety of frozen mixed vegetables included.
