Description

This Chicken Cheesesteak Skillet is a quick and delicious one-pan meal that combines tender, seasoned chicken with sautéed onions and bell peppers, all topped with melted provolone cheese. Perfect for a weeknight dinner, it’s easy to prepare in just 30 minutes and serves 4 people.

Ingredients

Scale

Vegetables

  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 green bell peppers, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Protein

  • lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts, thinly sliced

Other Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1½ cups provolone cheese, grated
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Sauté Vegetables: Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and green bell peppers. Sauté them until they are softened, which should take about 5 to 7 minutes. In the last minute of cooking, add the minced garlic and stir frequently to release its aroma. Once done, remove the vegetables from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Cook Chicken: Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil to the same skillet. Place the thinly sliced chicken breasts into the skillet, seasoning them with Italian seasoning, kosher salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Cook the chicken for approximately 7 to 9 minutes, until browned and fully cooked, stirring occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Return the sautéed onions, bell peppers, and garlic to the skillet with the cooked chicken. Stir everything together to combine well and allow it to heat through for an additional 2 minutes.
  4. Melt Cheese: Evenly sprinkle the grated provolone cheese over the skillet mixture. Cover the skillet with a lid and let the cheese melt gently for about 2 to 3 minutes.
  5. Serve: Once the cheese has melted, serve the Chicken Cheesesteak Skillet hot, either on its own or with your favorite side dishes such as bread, rice, or a light salad.

Notes

  • Thinly slicing the chicken breasts ensures they cook quickly and evenly.
  • You can substitute provolone cheese with mozzarella or cheddar if preferred.
  • For added flavor, consider adding a splash of Worcestershire sauce to the chicken while cooking.
  • Serve with crusty bread or on sandwich rolls to turn it into a cheesesteak sandwich.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
