Ingredients
Scale
Puff Pastry:
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
Caramelized Onions:
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Additional Toppings:
- 1 large apple (such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith), thinly sliced
- 1 cup sharp white cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
- 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Caramelize Onions: In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions, sugar, and salt; cook, stirring often, for 20–25 minutes until onions are golden and caramelized.
- Prepare the Pastry: Roll puff pastry onto the prepared baking sheet. Score a 1-inch border around the edges without cutting all the way through.
- Assemble the Tart: Evenly spread caramelized onions inside the border, top with apple slices, then sprinkle with cheddar cheese and thyme.
- Bake: Brush pastry edges with egg wash. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until pastry is puffed and golden.
- Serve: Cool slightly before slicing.
Notes
- For added richness, drizzle the tart with a touch of honey before serving.
- Brie or Gruyère can be substituted for cheddar for a different flavor profile.
