Description

A flavorful and satisfying Beef and Pepper Rice Bowl featuring tender slices of beef cooked with crisp bell peppers and onions in a savory sauce, served over fluffy rice. This quick and easy stir-fry combines soy, oyster, and hoisin sauces with fresh ginger and garlic for a delicious Asian-inspired meal perfect for weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef and Vegetables

  • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 bell peppers (any color), sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated

Sauce

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Serving

  • 2 cups cooked white or brown rice
  • Green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Beef: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced beef and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring frequently, until browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set it aside.
  2. Sauté the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the sliced onion and bell peppers. Cook for 4-5 minutes until the vegetables are tender but still retain some crispness. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, and cook for another 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt and pepper until well combined.
  4. Combine and Heat: Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the vegetables. Pour the prepared sauce over the mixture and toss everything together until well coated and heated through, about 2 minutes.
  5. Serve: Spoon the beef and pepper mixture over the cooked rice. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy your flavorful beef and pepper rice bowl.

Notes

  • Use flank steak or sirloin for tender slices; thin slicing helps it cook quickly.
  • You can substitute bell peppers with other colorful varieties for different flavor profiles.
  • Adjust the amount of brown sugar and sauces to taste for sweeter or saltier preferences.
  • Serve with steamed or fried rice depending on your preference.
  • To make it gluten free, ensure using gluten-free soy sauce and oyster sauce alternatives.
