Ingredients
Scale
Beef and Marinade
- 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Cooking
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 large yellow onions, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
Garnish and Serving
- 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
- Cooked rice, for serving
Instructions
- Marinate the Beef: In a medium bowl, combine the sliced flank steak with soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, cornstarch, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and black pepper. Toss well to coat and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes to enhance flavor and tenderize the meat.
- Heat the Pan and Cook Beef: Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and sear for 1 to 2 minutes per side until browned but still tender. Avoid overcooking. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
- Sauté Onions, Garlic, and Ginger: In the same pan, add a little more oil if needed. Add the sliced onions and sauté over medium-high heat for about 5 to 7 minutes until they begin to soften and turn golden brown. Add the minced garlic and freshly grated ginger, cooking for an additional 1 minute to release their aroma.
- Combine and Finish Cooking: Return the seared beef to the pan with the onions, garlic, and ginger. Stir everything together and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes until the beef is heated through and onions are tender.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat, garnish with sliced green onions, and serve hot over cooked rice for a complete meal.
Notes
- You can substitute flank steak with sirloin or skirt steak for a similar texture and flavor.
- For extra heat, add chili flakes or a dash of sriracha sauce to the marinade or when cooking.
- To make it low-carb, serve the stir-fry over cauliflower rice or steamed vegetables instead of regular rice.
