Description

These BBQ meatballs are a perfect combination of savory and sweet, with a sticky barbecue sauce coating tender meatballs. They make a great appetizer for parties or a delicious main dish served over rice or mashed potatoes.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Meatball Mixture:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

Barbecue Sauce:

  • 1 cup barbecue sauce (your favorite)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (optional, for sweeter sauce)

Garnish:

  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Meatball Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, chopped onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined; do not overmix.
  3. Form Meatballs: Roll the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until cooked through and browned.
  4. Prepare Barbecue Sauce: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the barbecue sauce and brown sugar (if using). Stir until warm and combined.
  5. Coat Meatballs: Add the cooked meatballs to the skillet and gently toss to coat them evenly in the sauce. Simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce is thick and sticky.
  6. Serve: Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with chopped parsley if desired. Serve warm as an appetizer or over rice or mashed potatoes as a main dish.

Notes

  • Use ground turkey or chicken instead of beef if preferred.
  • For extra smoky flavor, add a dash of smoked paprika to the meat mixture.
