Ingredients
Scale
Pastry
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
Filling
- 1 medium apple (such as Honeycrisp or Gala), thinly sliced
- 4 oz Brie cheese, rind removed and sliced
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves (optional)
Topping and Finish
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Flour for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat oven and prepare baking sheet: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
- Prepare puff pastry: Lightly dust a clean surface with flour, roll out the thawed puff pastry to smooth out creases, and then cut it into 6 equal rectangles.
- Score pastry edges: Place the cut rectangles on the baking sheet and score a ½-inch border around each rectangle by lightly cutting the pastry without cutting all the way through. This border will help create a raised edge when baked.
- Assemble tarts: Inside the scored border on each rectangle, layer 2–3 thin apple slices followed by 1–2 slices of Brie cheese to create a rich, sweet, and creamy filling.
- Apply egg wash: Brush the edges of the pastry rectangles with beaten egg to give the crust a shiny, golden finish once baked.
- Bake: Bake the tarts in the preheated oven for 18–20 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
- Finalize and serve: When the tarts are still warm, drizzle with honey and sprinkle with fresh thyme leaves if desired. Serve warm or at room temperature for best flavor.
Notes
- For a savory twist, add a small pinch of sea salt or cracked black pepper before baking to balance the sweetness.
- Pears can be substituted for apples for a different but equally delicious flavor.
