Ingredients
Scale
Mashed Potato Mixture
- 2 cups mashed potatoes (chilled and firm)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg, beaten
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Coating and Cooking
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
- Cooking spray or a little olive oil
Instructions
- Combine ingredients: In a bowl, mix the chilled mashed potatoes, shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, beaten egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until fully combined.
- Shape into balls: Take a spoonful of the mixture and roll it into a ball approximately 1-2 tablespoons per ball. Repeat until all the mixture is formed into balls.
- Coat with breadcrumbs: Roll each mashed potato ball in breadcrumbs, pressing gently so they are well-coated all around for a crispy exterior.
- Preheat air fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) to ensure even cooking and crisping.
- Prepare air fryer basket: Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or drizzle with a little olive oil to prevent sticking. Arrange the potato balls in a single layer, leaving space between each ball for air circulation.
- Air fry the balls: Cook the potato balls at 375°F for 10 to 12 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside.
- Serve warm: Remove from the air fryer and serve immediately with your preferred dipping sauce for a tasty snack or appetizer.
Notes
- Use chilled and firm mashed potatoes for easier shaping and better texture.
- Panko breadcrumbs give a crispier crust than regular breadcrumbs but either works well.
- Make sure to not overcrowd the air fryer basket to allow even cooking and crispiness.
- These can be served as an appetizer, snack, or side dish.
- Leftovers can be reheated in the air fryer to restore crispiness.
