Ingredients
Scale
Potatoes
- 3 large russet potatoes, peeled if desired and cut into 1/4-inch thick chips
Seasoning
- 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
Instructions
- Soak the Potatoes: Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water and soak for 20 to 30 minutes to remove excess starch, which helps achieve a crispier chip texture. After soaking, drain and pat them completely dry with a clean towel to prevent sogginess.
- Preheat the Air Fryer: Set the air fryer to 380°F (193°C) to prepare for cooking the chips evenly and to crisp them up nicely.
- Season the Chips: Toss the thoroughly dried potatoes with olive oil, salt, black pepper, and if desired, garlic powder and smoked paprika for extra flavor.
- Arrange in Air Fryer: Place the seasoned chips in the air fryer basket in a single, even layer to ensure they cook evenly. If needed, cook in batches to avoid overcrowding.
- Air-Fry the Chips: Cook the chips for 18 to 22 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to promote even cooking and browning. The chips should turn golden and crisp.
- Final Seasoning: Taste the chips and season with additional salt if preferred before serving. For extra crispiness, you can increase the temperature to 400°F for the last 3 minutes of cooking.
Notes
- Soaking the potatoes removes excess starch, which improves crispiness.
- For a fluffier interior, parboil the potatoes for 5 minutes before air-frying.
- Serve chips with ketchup, aioli, or malt vinegar to complement the flavors.
- Cook chips in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding, which can lead to soggy fries.
