Description

Crispy and healthy Air-Fried Chips made from fresh russet potatoes, seasoned with olive oil, salt, pepper, and optional garlic powder and smoked paprika. Perfectly golden and delicious, these homemade fries are a guilt-free alternative to deep-fried potatoes and ideal as a side dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Potatoes

  • 3 large russet potatoes, peeled if desired and cut into 1/4-inch thick chips

Seasoning

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)

Instructions

  1. Soak the Potatoes: Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water and soak for 20 to 30 minutes to remove excess starch, which helps achieve a crispier chip texture. After soaking, drain and pat them completely dry with a clean towel to prevent sogginess.
  2. Preheat the Air Fryer: Set the air fryer to 380°F (193°C) to prepare for cooking the chips evenly and to crisp them up nicely.
  3. Season the Chips: Toss the thoroughly dried potatoes with olive oil, salt, black pepper, and if desired, garlic powder and smoked paprika for extra flavor.
  4. Arrange in Air Fryer: Place the seasoned chips in the air fryer basket in a single, even layer to ensure they cook evenly. If needed, cook in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  5. Air-Fry the Chips: Cook the chips for 18 to 22 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to promote even cooking and browning. The chips should turn golden and crisp.
  6. Final Seasoning: Taste the chips and season with additional salt if preferred before serving. For extra crispiness, you can increase the temperature to 400°F for the last 3 minutes of cooking.

Notes

  • Soaking the potatoes removes excess starch, which improves crispiness.
  • For a fluffier interior, parboil the potatoes for 5 minutes before air-frying.
  • Serve chips with ketchup, aioli, or malt vinegar to complement the flavors.
  • Cook chips in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding, which can lead to soggy fries.
